Isometric Paper

Drawing cubes, room layouts or 3D shapes for math class? Print free isometric paper in seconds: a full triangle grid, isometric dot paper with just the points, or hexagon graph paper. Choose the spacing, then print at true size on US Letter or A4 or save it as a PDF.

In the print dialog, keep the scale at 100% (Actual size) and pick the same paper size. For an isometric paper PDF, choose Save as PDF as the printer.

How to print isometric paper

  1. Pick a style: isometric lines for a full grid, isometric dots for a cleaner page, or hexagons.
  2. Choose the spacing. It is the distance between neighboring points, which is also the side of each triangle.
  3. Select US Letter or A4 and a color. Gray and light blue fade into the background once you draw over them in pencil or ink.
  4. Press Print isometric paper with the scale at 100%.

Unlike a fixed isometric paper printable file, this printable isometric paper is drawn fresh in your browser each time, so you can switch styles and print as many sheets as you need. Nothing is uploaded.

How to draw on isometric graph paper

Isometric graph paper has lines in three directions: vertical, and two sets tilted 30° from horizontal. Those are the three edges you see at a corner of a cube viewed from above at an angle, which is why 3D drawings line up with the grid.

  1. Draw a vertical line for the front edge of a box.
  2. From its top and bottom, follow the 30° lines to the left and right for the two visible sides.
  3. Add vertical lines at the ends, then close the top face with lines parallel to the ones you drew.

Lengths along all three directions are equal on this grid, so a cube that is 3 units wide is 3 units deep and 3 units tall. Teachers use it for counting cubes, volume problems and plan and elevation views; designers use it for quick room sketches and game art.

Isometric dot paper, lines or hexagons?

StyleWhat you seeBest for
Isometric linesFull triangle gridBeginners, math worksheets, precise 3D sketches
Isometric dotsOnly the corner pointsClean finished drawings, cube models, pixel-style art
HexagonsHoneycomb of hexagonsGame maps, quilting, tiling patterns, chemistry

The isometric dot paper and the triangle grid use the same spacing, so you can switch between them for the same project. For square grids, use the graph paper generator; for writing, print lined paper.

How we tested this tool

We printed the paper to PDF with Microsoft Edge on Windows and measured the file: the page is exactly US Letter, one drawing unit equals 1 mm, on the 1/4 inch grid the vertical lines are 5.50 mm apart (6.35 mm × √3/2, as an equilateral triangle grid needs) and the diagonals rise at exactly 30°, on A4 5 mm isometric dot paper the dots in each column are 5.00 mm apart, and each sheet fits inside the margins on a single page. We also checked every style and spacing on Letter and A4, the layout at a 375 px phone width and that Ctrl+P prints the current paper. We haven't yet printed it on a range of real printers ourselves. If you print some, tell us how it came out.

Frequently asked questions

What is isometric paper?

Isometric paper is a grid of equilateral triangles: vertical lines plus two sets of lines at 30° to the horizontal. Those three directions match the three edges of a cube drawn in isometric view, so boxes, buildings and 3D shapes are easy to draw without measuring angles.

What is the difference between isometric graph paper and isometric dot paper?

Isometric graph paper shows every line of the triangle grid. Isometric dot paper shows only the points where the lines meet, which keeps the page clean: you join the dots you need and the finished drawing doesn't sit on a busy background.

Which grid size should I choose?

1/4 inch or 5 mm suits most drawing and math worksheets. 1/2 inch or 1 cm is easier for younger students, for building cube models and for printing at a distance, such as on a classroom wall.

Can I save isometric paper as a PDF?

Yes. Press Print isometric paper and choose Save as PDF or Microsoft Print to PDF as the printer. The PDF keeps the exact spacing, so you can print more copies later.

What is hexagon graph paper used for?

Hexagon paper is used for board game and tabletop maps, quilting and tiling patterns, chemistry ring diagrams and math activities on tessellations. Each hexagon here has sides of the size you choose.

Is it free?

Yes. It's free with no account, no download and no watermark, and the paper is drawn in your browser.
