Why is my iPhone screen yellow?
If you didn't open a yellow screen and your iPhone suddenly looks yellow or warm, it is almost always a setting, not damage. An iPhone yellow screen tint usually comes from one of these four. Check them in order and turn each one off to see which it was:
- Night Shift. Settings › Display & Brightness › Night Shift. It warms the screen on a schedule, so the iPhone can look yellow only in the evening. You can also long-press the brightness slider in Control Center.
- True Tone. Settings › Display & Brightness › True Tone. It shifts the white balance to match the room, which looks yellow under warm indoor lights.
- Color Filters. Settings › Accessibility › Display & Text Size › Color Filters. A Color Tint set to yellow or orange tints everything.
- Reduce White Point and Auto-Brightness in the same menu can make whites look dull and creamy; try switching them off.
If the yellow is only in one area, appears on the Apple logo while the phone starts, or came after a drop, it's the display itself and needs a repair. A screen protector that has aged yellow is another simple thing to rule out.
Yellow tint on Android, Windows or Mac
- Android: look for Eye comfort shield, Night light or Blue light filter in Display settings, and Color correction in Accessibility.
- Windows: Settings › System › Display › Night light. Also check the color profile under Advanced display, and HDR settings on HDR monitors.
- Mac: System Settings › Displays › Night Shift and True Tone.
- Monitor or TV: the on-screen menu's color temperature (Warm, Reading or Low blue light modes) turns whites yellow. Set it to Normal or 6500K.
To check whether the tint is really in the panel, open the bright yellow and the white screen side by side with all filters off. Uneven yellow patches on white, especially near the edges of an older LCD, point to backlight aging. The backlight bleed test helps spot them.
What a full yellow screen is good for
- A warm light for reading in the evening. Warm yellow and Dim amber contain far less blue light than a white screen, which makes them gentler as a small light late in the day. Keep the brightness low; how bright the light is matters more than its color.
- A soft background. A light yellow screen behind a small object or behind you in a video gives a clean, warm backdrop.
- Mood and room lighting. Bright yellow on a TV, monitor or tablet makes a cheerful colored light for parties, photos, short videos or a themed room.
- Checking pixels. Yellow is red and green with no blue. On a bright yellow screen, a white or blue dot is a stuck blue subpixel, and a black dot is a dead pixel. For a full check, use the dead pixel test.
How to open the yellow screen
- Tap Bright yellow or one of the other shades above.
- The page fills the display and switches to full screen where your browser allows it.
- Adjust the brightness: high for a mood light, as low as possible for evening reading light.
- Press Esc or tap ✕ in the corner to go back.
The download creates a plain yellow PNG in your browser at the size you choose. This device uses your screen's exact pixel resolution, so it fits without stretching. Want another color? Try the red screen, the pink screen or the black screen.
How we tested this tool
We checked in a desktop browser and at a 375 px phone width that each yellow shade opens full screen in the right color and closes with Esc and the ✕ button, and that the downloaded wallpaper is a PNG of the chosen size filled with the chosen yellow. The iPhone and PC settings above follow the current menu names in iOS, Android, Windows 11 and macOS; we haven't reproduced every hardware fault.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my iPhone screen yellow?
Almost always a display setting: Night Shift (Settings, Display & Brightness, Night Shift), True Tone, or a Color Filter / Color Tint in Accessibility, Display & Text Size. Turn them off one at a time to find the cause. If the yellow area is only part of the screen or shows on the Apple logo at startup, it's a hardware issue.
How do I make my whole screen yellow?
Tap one of the yellow shades on this page. It fills the display and switches to full screen where your browser allows it. Press Esc or tap the ✕ button to go back.
Is a yellow screen easier on the eyes at night?
A warm, dim yellow has much less blue light than white, and blue light is the part most linked to staying alert in the evening. It's a gentler choice than a bright white screen, but the brightness matters more than the color, so keep it low, and darkness is still best before sleep.
Why does my monitor or laptop look yellow?
Check Night light in Windows display settings or Night Shift on a Mac, the monitor's own color temperature setting (Warm or a reading mode), and the color profile. A yellow tint only on part of an older LCD can be backlight aging.
