What people use an all white screen for
- A soft light for video calls and selfies. Put a tablet or second monitor next to your camera at full brightness. Warm white is kinder to skin tones than pure white.
- Cleaning your display. Dust, fingerprints and streaks are much easier to see on white. Wipe with a dry microfiber cloth while the white screen is on.
- Checking for dead pixels. A dead pixel shows up as a black dot on white. For a full check with every color, use our dead pixel test.
- Tracing and reading. Lay thin paper over a tablet showing a white screen to trace a drawing, or read film negatives and slides.
- Checking screen uniformity. Patches that look slightly darker, pinker or greener on white show uneven backlighting or a tint on one side of the panel.
How to open the white screen
- Tap Pure white (or one of the other shades) above.
- The page fills your display and switches to full screen where the browser allows it.
- Turn your screen brightness up as far as you need.
- Press Esc or tap the ✕ button in the corner to go back.
On iPhone, Safari can't hide its toolbar completely. Rotate the phone or scroll slightly to get the largest white area, or download the white screen wallpaper and open it in Photos instead.
White screen wallpaper in your exact resolution
The download button creates a plain white PNG right in your browser, at the size you choose. This device uses your screen's exact pixel resolution, so the image fits without stretching or cropping. Set it as your wallpaper from your phone's Photos or Gallery app, or from your computer's display settings.
Warm, cool or pure white?
Pure white (#FFFFFF) is the brightest and best for checking pixels. Warm white has a slight yellow tint, like a soft lamp, which is easier on the eyes and better as a light. Cool white has a hint of blue, similar to daylight. Soft white is slightly gray, useful when pure white is too harsh in a dark room.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make my whole screen white?
Tap Pure white on this page. It fills the screen with white and switches to full screen where your browser allows it. Press Esc or tap the ✕ button to go back.
Can I use a white screen as a light for video calls?
Yes. Open the white screen on a second device, or on a monitor next to your camera, turn the brightness up and angle it toward your face. Warm white is usually more flattering than pure white.
How do I set a white screen wallpaper?
Choose This device as the size, tap Download, then set the saved image as your wallpaper from your phone's Photos or Gallery app, or from your computer's display settings.
Does a white screen use more battery?
On OLED phones, yes: white pixels use far more power than black ones. On LCD screens, the backlight is on either way, so brightness matters more than color.
