What a full red screen is good for
- A night light that keeps your night vision. Your eyes take 20–30 minutes to fully adapt to the dark, and bright white or blue light resets that in seconds. Dim red light disturbs it far less, which is why astronomers, campers and pilots use red lights. Pick Dark red and lower the brightness.
- Gentler light before sleep. Blue-rich light is the strongest signal that keeps you awake. A dim red screen is a softer option if you need a little light late at night, though no screen light is as good as darkness.
- Mood and party lighting. A red screen on a TV, monitor or tablet makes a quick colored light for photos, videos, gaming setups or a themed room.
- Checking red pixels. Each pixel has red, green and blue parts. On a red screen, a dot that stays black or a different color points to a dead or stuck subpixel. For a full check, use the dead pixel test.
- Screen uniformity. Patches that look darker or orange on pure red show uneven backlighting or tint on one side of the panel.
How to open the red screen
- Tap Pure red or one of the other shades above.
- The page fills the display and switches to full screen where your browser allows it.
- Adjust the brightness: high for party light, as low as possible at night.
- Press Esc or tap ✕ in the corner to go back.
On iPhone, Safari can't hide its toolbar completely. Rotate the phone for the largest red area, or download the red screen wallpaper and open it in Photos.
Red screen wallpaper in your exact resolution
The download creates a plain red PNG in your browser at the size you choose. This device uses your screen's exact pixel resolution, so it fits without stretching. Set it as your wallpaper from Photos or Gallery on a phone, or from display settings on a computer.
Did your screen turn red on its own?
If you didn't open a red screen and your display suddenly looks red or pink, these are the usual causes, from most to least common:
- A color filter or night mode is on. On iPhone check Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Color Filters; on Android look for Color correction or Extra dim; on Windows check Night light and Color filters; on Mac, Night Shift.
- A loose or damaged cable on an external monitor can drop the green and blue signals, leaving a red picture. Reseat both ends or try another cable.
- A graphics driver problem on a computer. Update or reinstall the driver from the GPU maker's site.
- Hardware damage after a drop or water exposure. If a red tint stays even in the device's own startup screen, it needs a repair.
Want a different color? Try the white screen or the black screen.
How we tested this tool
We checked in a desktop browser and at a 375 px phone width that each shade opens full screen in the right color and closes with Esc and the ✕ button, and that the downloaded wallpaper is a PNG of the chosen size filled with the chosen red.
