How to use the printable ring sizer
- Print at 100% and check the scale: a bank card must cover the card box exactly. If it doesn't, nothing else on the page is accurate.
- Strip method: cut out one paper strip, wrap it snugly around the base of the finger with the numbers facing out, and read the US size where the red 0 line meets the scale. The bottom edge shows the same length in millimeters, which is the EU size.
- Circle method: if you have a ring that already fits that finger, lay it on the ring size chart. The right size is the circle whose line just shows all the way around inside the ring.
- Measure twice, ideally at the end of the day when fingers are slightly larger, and on the hand you'll wear the ring on.
The strip covers US sizes 3 to 15½, so it works as a men's ring sizer printable and a women's one. Use the spare strip if the first cut goes wrong.
Ring size chart: US size to mm
US and Canadian ring sizes follow a fixed rule: each whole size adds 0.8128 mm to the inside diameter, starting from 11.63 mm at size 0 (ring size systems). European sizes under ISO 8653 are simply the inside circumference in millimeters. This printable ring size chart is calculated from that rule:
| US size | Inside diameter | Inside circumference (EU size) |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | 14.1 mm (0.554 in) | 44.2 mm |
| 3½ | 14.5 mm (0.570 in) | 45.5 mm |
| 4 | 14.9 mm (0.586 in) | 46.8 mm |
| 4½ | 15.3 mm (0.602 in) | 48.0 mm |
| 5 | 15.7 mm (0.618 in) | 49.3 mm |
| 5½ | 16.1 mm (0.634 in) | 50.6 mm |
| 6 | 16.5 mm (0.650 in) | 51.9 mm |
| 6½ | 16.9 mm (0.666 in) | 53.1 mm |
| 7 | 17.3 mm (0.682 in) | 54.4 mm |
| 7½ | 17.7 mm (0.698 in) | 55.7 mm |
| 8 | 18.1 mm (0.714 in) | 57.0 mm |
| 8½ | 18.5 mm (0.730 in) | 58.2 mm |
| 9 | 18.9 mm (0.746 in) | 59.5 mm |
| 9½ | 19.4 mm (0.762 in) | 60.8 mm |
| 10 | 19.8 mm (0.778 in) | 62.1 mm |
| 10½ | 20.2 mm (0.794 in) | 63.3 mm |
| 11 | 20.6 mm (0.810 in) | 64.6 mm |
| 11½ | 21.0 mm (0.826 in) | 65.9 mm |
| 12 | 21.4 mm (0.842 in) | 67.2 mm |
| 12½ | 21.8 mm (0.858 in) | 68.5 mm |
| 13 | 22.2 mm (0.874 in) | 69.7 mm |
Jewelers' charts can differ by a tenth of a millimeter because of rounding; the differences are far smaller than half a size. If you want a ring size chart printable on paper, the circles in step 2 of the sheet are drawn at true size for every half size from 4 to 13½.
Getting an accurate ring size
- Mind the knuckle. The ring has to slide over it. If your knuckle is much wider than the base of your finger, choose a size between the two measurements.
- Between two sizes? Go for the larger one. It's easier to wear and easier to resize down.
- Wide bands fit tighter. Many jewelers suggest half a size up for bands wider than about 6 mm.
- Cold fingers shrink. Don't measure right after being outside in the cold or after a cold drink.
- Paper isn't perfect. A paper strip can stretch or be wrapped too tight, so for an expensive ring, confirm with a jeweler's metal ring sizer before ordering.
Need to measure something else at true size? Print the printable ruler, which uses the same card check.
How we tested this tool
We printed the sheet to PDF with Microsoft Edge on Windows and measured the file: the page is exactly US Letter, one drawing unit equals 1 mm, the card box is 85.6 × 53.98 mm, the size 7 mark on the strip sits 54.4 mm from the 0 line, and the size 7 circle is 17.32 mm across, as the US sizing rule gives. We also checked the A4 version, that everything fits on one page, the layout at a 375 px phone width and that Ctrl+P prints the sheet. We haven't measured real fingers against a jeweler's sizer, and printers vary, which is why the card check is on the page. If you compare it with a jeweler's sizer, tell us how it matched.
Frequently asked questions
How do I use a printable ring sizer?
Print the page at 100% scale and check that a credit card fits the card box exactly. Cut out the paper strip, wrap it snugly around the base of your finger and read the size where the red 0 line meets the scale. Or lay a ring that already fits on the circles and pick the circle whose line just shows inside it.
Is a printable ring sizer accurate?
It can be accurate to about half a size if the page prints at true size, which the card box lets you confirm. Paper can stretch or be pulled too tight, so measure twice, and for an expensive ring confirm the size with a jeweler before you order.
Why is the card box important?
Many print dialogs shrink pages to fit the printable area. A few percent of shrinking moves the result by about half a ring size. If a standard 85.6 × 54 mm bank card fits the box exactly, the strip and the circles are at true size.
What if I'm between two ring sizes?
Choose the larger size, especially for wide bands or if your knuckle is large. A ring that is slightly loose is more comfortable and easier to resize than one that won't go over the knuckle.
Does it work for men's ring sizes?
Yes. The strip runs from US size 3 to 15½ and the ring size chart from 4 to 13½, which covers typical men's and women's sizes.
Is there a ring sizer printable PDF?
Yes. Press Print ring sizer and choose Save as PDF as the printer. The PDF keeps the true size, as long as you print it later at 100% as well.
